Industrial Designer
Whipsaw is looking for an Industrial Designer with a strong background in design principles, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for creating exceptional products. We are looking for a motivated team player passionate about design excellence and will support the team with ideation, concept execution, and preparation of highly refined assets. You are motivated by solving complex challenges in various domains and delivering elegant solutions. Your expertise will enable us to innovate in both what we make and how we make it. This means designing with both craft and thought, and executing with consistency and quality. This role will be a hybrid position based in the San Francisco studio.
What You’ll Do
- Collaborate with the industrial design, mechanical engineering, and experience design teams to define project goals, requirements, and constraints.
- Conduct thorough research to understand user needs, market trends, and the competitive landscape.
- Create concept sketches, renderings, and 3D models that effectively communicate design ideas.
- Develop and refine design concepts based on feedback from stakeholders, incorporating usability, ergonomics, and aesthetics.
- Help to generate detailed design specifications for prototyping and production.
- Create physical prototypes and mockups to evaluate and validate design concepts.
- Participate in user testing and gather feedback to inform design iterations.
- Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturers to select appropriate materials and production processes.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and design advancements.
- Present design concepts and ideas to clients, stakeholders, and team members.
- Maintain organized project documentation and design files.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design.
- Proficiency in 2D and 3D design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite, SolidWorks, Rhino, etc.
- Strong sketching and rendering skills to effectively communicate design concepts.
- Experience with rapid prototyping techniques and tools.
- Natural curiosity about materials, manufacturing processes, and engineering principles.
- Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and adapt to evolving project requirements.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Portfolio showcasing a range of design projects, including sketches, renderings, prototypes, and final products.
- Passion for innovation, creativity, and staying at the forefront of design trends.
- Problem-solving mindset with a focus on user-centered design.
- Current documentation to work in the United States.
