Revio Sequencing System
Revio is a gene sequencing system designed by Whipsaw and PacBio

Revio Sequencing System

Revio is a gene sequencing system that is used for human genetic analysis, cancer research, agricultural genomics, and more. It can sequence up to 1,300 whole human genomes per year for less than $1,000 per genome. Whipsaw partnered with PacBio to identify an all-new user interaction model and to design a stunning new industrial design for the instrument, including an intuitive user interface. The design improvements maximize sample throughput by enabling users to set up back-to-back runs, manage instruments remotely and monitor progress at-a-glance.

Revio’s bold architectural design language communicates sophistication, competence, and precision, exactly what the PacBio brand and technology offer. Every design element has been optimized including a simplified workflow, a perfectly flush sliding glass door with an integrated display, a woven wire ventilation grill inspired by performance cars, and intuitive physical and digital controls.

Higher throughput driven by workflow efficiency

Revio is capable of running continuously for 24 hours, allowing for the simultaneous acquisition of 4 SMRT Cells and providing flexible scheduling options. By sequencing samples in the lower area, back-to-back runs can be easily arranged to maximize operational efficiency. Users can monitor sequencing progress remotely using the SMRT Link web app or quickly check the external display or status light for a quick update on experiment progress.

Premium finishes befit for a state-of-the-art sequencing platform

Revio’s design was driven by form and color, with the internal components arranged in three vertical color blocks inspired by genetic sequence maps. The result is a bold, eye-catching machine that conveys high performance and precision. Every detail was meticulously crafted for perfection, from the single sheet of back-painted Gorilla glass on the sliding door to the Bugatti-inspired woven wire ventilation grill. The fit and finish are exemplary, with premium materials and textures throughout.

Minimalism and functionality of Revio
"We identified and validated an opportunity to shift all set up steps and monitoring data off of the machine and over to the PacBio web application. These UX improvements allow researchers to spend less time in front of the machine and more time preparing samples and analyzing results."
